How do you even Magic?

Here's a place for general discussion of MTG.

How do you even Magic?

Post by Michi » Mon Aug 01, 2016 8:40 pm

Just kind of curious: I know this is a Yu-Gi-Oh! site and I don't recall this section ever being super busy, but who here plays Magic the Gathering?

What formats do you play?

What decks do you play?

Does anyone play Magic Online (MTGO)?

To start:
I used to play competitive Modern, but since I moved I've sold my expensive decks and now primarily play Pauper and budget Modern on MTGO, along with the occasional paper Commander game.

I still have some other paper decks, but don't get to play with them much since Magic isn't especially popular where I now live.

I'd love to share decklists and such, but first I kinda want to see if anyone cares.

Michi out!
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

SOMEONE ELSE WHO PLAYS MAGIC AWESOME :D

Ok so I play a lot of standard and commander but I'm trying to break into my local stores modern meta game with some quirky builds and some good old mono red aggro :D

Also I've been playing hydras and that's nothing new

Yay, Magic!

I haven't played standard in years; literally not since I first started the game (if I want to play a rotating format I'll just play Yu-Gi-Oh!).

Wacky modern decks are the best, but it's unfortunate how expensive the format has gotten since I started playing it. Here are some interesting BBB's (Bad Budget Brews) that I have:
Spoiler:

I used to play Esper Tokens in the Innistrad/Return-to-Ravnica Standard, and actually had "real" modern BW Tokens, but that deck was worth $400+ dollars, so I sold all the valuables and replaced them with (almost)-just-as-effective commons/uncommons. I really wish a similar tokens strategy existed in Yu-Gi-Oh!...

Make no mistake; this deck is terrible, and I should feel terrible for playing it. But it was also $2 to make online, and once it gets going it can beat some of the best decks in the format.

The most expensive deck I currently own (a few of the cards in it recently spiked in price, so I'll probably try to get rid of it). Nothing feels beter than wrathing your opponents creatures, lands, and hand with one card.
If you want, post your deck(s), and I shall "critique" them.
