Shaking off the rust VGC style

Post by ChaosDraGon00 » Tue Apr 07, 2015 7:01 am

Hey guys it's me again. Just wanted to let you know I'm getting ready for VGC Seattle in May and no clue where to start as to get into more comp battles. I made a rough draft team but feel free to leave suggestions and give me some pointers as I'm going to step away from Yugioh until Fall this. So all about Pokemon Oras. I can explain why I chose Q move over Z move if you'd like.

VGC Team
Mega Kaun
Jolly
252 atk, 4 sp.def, 252 speed
-PUP
-Sucker Punch
-Rock Slide
-Facade

Suicune
Bold
Pressure
@Leftovers
202 Hp, 120 Def, 88 Sp. Atk, 100 Speed
-Calm Mind
-Tailwind
-Scald
-Ice beam

Thunderus-I
Timid
Prankster
@Sitrus Berry
4 Def, 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Speed
-Taunt
-Thunder Bolt
-T Wae
-Substitute

Conkeldur
Adamant
Iron Fist
@Assult Vest
100 Hp, 252 atk, 88 Def, 120 Sp.Def
-Drain Punch
-Knock Off
-Ice Punch
-Thunder Punch

Cresselia
Calm
@Rocky Helmet
202 Hp, 56 Def, 252 Sp.Def
-Moon Light
-Reflect
-Helping Hand
-Icy Wind

Heatran
Modest
Flash Fire
@Focus Sash
252 Sp. atk 56 Sp. def 202 Speed
-Lava Plume
-Earth Power
-Flash Cannon
-Toxic
I tried to balance it out and make my team have singular weaknesses and no common. So far I have
1 fairy
1 fighting
1 4x rock
1 ice
1 water
1 grass
1 dark
1 flying
1 4x ground
1 Psychic

But my Ground is covered by Cress, Crocune and Thunderus
My rock weakness is covered by crocune, Conk and so on.

Only weaknesses I've dealt with are those Mega evolve + double Protect

I choose Rockslide due to flinch and it doesn't harm my guys. Facade is a tech because I'm not a huge fan of fake out. Then it also gets both boosted from PUP, Stab and poison/burn/para

I decided Moonlight due to it does the same as Recover but allows me to heal when my opp is immobile

I've also thought about Discharge or Dark Pulse on Thunderus but I would prefer T-Bolt and Sub or T-Bolt and Dark Pulse over Discharge.

Crocune is mainly for Tail Wind+Calm Mind support. I have thought about running Snarl instead of Ice Beam but we'll see later.

I find your lack of EQ disturbing.

How come nobody knows Protect? I thought Protect was pretty amazing in doubles.

Because EQ in doubles goes from 100 power to 80 power. I would run it but I rarely see the full use of it in VGC since Lando and Thunder are huge things. Only thing EQ could do damage on is Jolteon?(I think) and even if I used it on Kaun It wouldn't count as 2 hits. Same for rockslide but it hits more problematic mons in VGC than EQ.

Because I'm not a huge fan nor does my team really need Double Protect/Protect.

I could put it on Heatran and take out Toxic and then run EQ on some mons. But I rarely need to use or want to use Protect tbh. And Cress could lose either light screen or moon light and Thunderus can lose Sub for it if that would help.

I'm not a huge fan of return. I mean it's good but it's max power is 70(If I remember correctly) so basically Facade would be the better pick imo because if he get's burned Poisoned paralyzed etc it goes from 70 to 140 power and it can pick up the KO against many mons. Seismic Toss? What's that used against??

Return's base power maximum is 102.

Seismic Toss is you always deal 200 damage due to your ability.

Really? O.o
I read it was 70 on Bulbapedia when did that change?

200 hp levels of Wut?

What should I replace?
Facade for Return and what for Seismic toss?

Mega kaun
-Seismic Toss
-Sucker Punch
-Return
-Earthquake

This set?

So switch Flamethrower back to fire plume? I can give it a shot :P

EDIT:
So heads up Draco I got a Showdown profile now and I have 1 thing to say.
Kanga cannot learn Seismic Toss in VGC because it was a move that it could only learn in previous games. So I love it but it's not VGC legal anymore. But I have customized my team(yet again and here is it. Also I'll edit and re-post it above.

Mega Kaun
Jolly
252 atk, 4 sp.def, 252 speed
-PUP
-Sucker Punch
-Earthquake
-Return

Suicune
Bold
Pressure
@Lum Berry
200 Hp, 120 Def, 8 Sp.Atk, 180 Sp. Def
-Calm Mind
-Tailwind
-Scald
-Ice beam

Thunderus-I
Timid
Prankster
@Sitrus Berry
4 Def, 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Speed
-Taunt
-HP Ice
-T Wave
-T Bolt

Scrafty
Careful
Moxie
@Focus Sash
242 Hp, 200 Def, 66 Sp. def
-D-Dance
-Drain Punch
-Crunch
-Iron Head

Sylveon
Bold
Pixilate
@Leftovers
200 Hp, 252 Def, 58 Sp.Def
-Calm Mind
-Hyper Voice
-Draining Kiss
-HP Fire

Aggron
Relaxed
Sturdy ability
Weakness Policy
252 Atk, 252 Def, 4 Sp.Atk
-Rock Slide
-Protect
-Flash Cannon
-EQ

So basically I made a few changes.

A few things I realized were my teams where vulnerable to Trick Room.

I was playing a few 6v6 battles and realized Donphan was freaking being freaking amazing as usual. Bass Dropper(Donphan) was Droppin' the bass whenever I got a weakness policy off. So I decided to run a slow Physical Wall with Sturdy and Weakness Policy but Donphan brought another ice type weakness and it caused me to see Grass and Water were both problems. Then I saw Aggron and thought (weeeellllll he can be used for mixed battles) and I put Flash Cannon EQ and Rock Slide. Unfortunatle he can't learn anything priority wise which means Aggron he's a trick room wall.
