You're also forced to pay for education, military, police, public transit, etc.

Education is an investment in the future. If people are stupid and can't get jobs, then the government can't collect taxes, and goes into even more debt. Military is a necessary evil. Police enforce the laws that the government exists for. I don't want to pay for public transit either.

How are you paying for public healthcare? The government is forcing someone else to pay for you.
I meant with private healthcare, if you can't afford it and something goes wrong then you're screwed.

I agree, there should be a better way, but bigger government is never the answer.

Basic healthcare should be what your taxes go towards. A tax is a levy for the services of the country. Basic free healthcare should be a fundamental service available to all.

America, for all its influence, is still miles behind liberal Europe. How long will it take for Conservative America to wake up? You're fighting a battle that's already been lost.

Private health care is discrimination against the poor. Although I guess that's what the Republicans have always been about.

Not really Lewie, early republican party was more like democrats and democrats were like republicans. It changed over a hundred years ago and may flip in the future. Time will tell

Some would argue that not "wasting" our money on mandatory free health care or other social programs is part of what enables us to be so influential.

I'd also like to point out that the smaller, more condensed populations of Europe probably lend themselves much easier to a government health care plan.

Although I personally do favor public health care.

Why? The government should protect the rights and freedoms of the citizens. Heath care isn't a right.

Lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for.
