IRON DECK! Tournament TWO!

Post by MysticJhn » Sun May 16, 2010 1:10 am

This is a deck design tournament, based off the Iron Chef idea of not knowing what you'll be using.
Each round I'll pick a card that you MUST use in your deck.
The idea is to center the deck around that card, make that card it's theme ingredient so to speak.
This will be a single elimination bracket style tournament, each pairing will have it's own theme card.
When both people in the pairing have sent in a deck, me (or the substitute host) and 2 other judges will award points to your deck, user with the highest scoring deck moving on.
This isn't a playing tournament, so there's no need to actually own any cards, or even arrange a duel with your opponent. You just show up here and post your deck design.

All decks must stick to the TCG Advanced Format.
You only get 1 week to turn in your decks!

The following will be the judging criteria.

1) Originality - 10 possible points
Does your deck look net-decked or did you make it yourself?
Creativity counts.
Also, remember that if you turn your deck in second, you might appear as if you copied your opponent.

2) Use of Theme - 20 possible points
This is the most important part. There's a theme card.
I want to see the card played, the central card, important to the deck.
I don't want to see the card just thrown in there, I don't just want it to
be used as cost fodder for antoher card.
Get it active, on the field, use it.

3) Playability - 5 possible points
Now, it's understood you're most likely not going to be making top tier decks
centered around a random card from who knows where and when in the YuGiOh universe,
but it would be nice if you could make it playable.
A deck that's better to play than it's opposing deck can gain you enough bonus points in this category to get you a win.

Here is the official bracket!
Watch this to follow along with the winners and losers.
We will only be playing one match at a time, so don't jump the gun.
Be patient and watch the thread for your turn.

Judges
1. MysticJhn (host)
2. Arrowblaze (sub-host)
3. bricemck
4. LewieGee
5. Zeronex
6. Mokey Mokey
7. hadokenboom25

I will rotate the judges for each match, so make note which one(s) you are judging.
I won't need you all for each match.
You can give any amount of points (up to the max.) for each of the three categories.
When you report your scores for the competetor's decks, mark each category and then a total.

For example...

RandomUser's Deck
Orignality: 8 points
Use of Theme: 13 points
Playability: 2 points
TOTAL: 23 points

When all 3 judges have scored both decks in a match, the scores will be totaled and the player with the most points wins.
Winner moves on to the next bracket and the next scheduled match will immediatly begin.

What happens say, in the very unlikely event I beat both you Mystic and Haou, will I be banished from the site forever...? *Looks over at his Yami.* What?

SP: Nothing, just watching for flying pigs.

You have no faith in me at all, do you?

SP: None.

*shrugs* It's still the first round and you still have to out-deck your opponent.

If it were me, I'd put something like Cursed Fig or Iron Chain Blaster. =.=

Mystic, if you really wanted to go up against Haou, you should've saved this for him. :)

Please refrain from giving out suggestions until after both contestants have posted their decks.

Any particular reason why?

I don't want to give anyone ideas, but there's a certain archetype that Haou's very fond of that Catolbepas is practically designed specifically to work with.

I was thinking that too, but that focusing on those cards will probably cost them a few originality points...

Spoiler:
The Witches of Fortune
Monsters: 18
3 Catoblepas and the Witch of Fate
3 Fortune Lady Light
3 Fortune Lady Dark
3 Fortune Lady Water
3 Fortune Lady Wind
2 Penguin Soldier
1 Morphing Jar

Spells: 12
3 Black Garden
1 Reasoning
1 One for One
1 MST
2 Magical Dimension
3 Fortunes Future
1 Pot of Avarice

Traps: 10
1 Return from the Different Dimension
2 Needle Ceiling
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device
2 Magician's Circle
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Mirror Force
1 Solemn Judgment

I checked some rulings on Black Garden and I found that the King of Skull Servants gets it's attack halved because it's effect states that the attack boost becomes it's original attack. Fortune Ladies do not have that specification so their attack boost stays making them immune to black garden.

I have magician's circle at 2 to get my Witch of Fate quickly. I use Black Garden to halve the attack of threatening monsters. Using Witch's effect I can destroy the Rose Tokens that my Black Garden generates for my opponent and playing the Fortune Ladies gives me plenty of ? monsters to abuse the Witch's effect. I can always use my triple Fortune's Future or Return from the Different Dimension to re use my fortune ladies.
