Seeing who's interested...

Post by MysticJhn » Tue Jul 10, 2012 9:55 pm

I have an idea in my head for a new game post-YCG Island.
Initially I was going to do a YCG Planet in the style of YCG Island, only bigger and more complex.
More like an MMORPG.
That, however, would be way too huge for me to take on without it being an independently running program.
There is no way I could handle it daily, updating, doing random battles, tracking all the stats.
I especially couldn't play along with everyone.
So until I learn to program Flash games (just short of never), I'm scrapping that idea.

However, recently I've been getting into something that I could work with and would allow me to play.

I want to do a Risk type game, using Level stars instead of armies.
I'm still trying to figure out how to work monsters into it.
But basically you earn Level stars per round, place them on your territories, then attack and capture adjacent territories.
The winner of the game is the user who conquers the world.

The world map (which would represent different Field Spells in the game) would be known to all.
However, when I show you your own personal map, it only shows your territories and ones you neighbor.
The rest of the world would be "fogged", so you don't know who controls what parts of the map with how many Levels.

I would naturally have an advantage as I can see the whole world map unfogged, but maybe we can handicap me some other way.

Capturing certain full regions regions would allow you to add more Levels than if you just have random territories.
Controlling the entire Sanctuary in the Sky, for example, would give you extra armies than just having a few pieces of it.

Right now I have no idea how I'll work monsters into it, or just forgo the monsters altother and play it more like standard Risk, only calling them Levels instead of armies.

Anyway, that's my thoughts, curious who if anyone would be interested in playing this once YCG Island 2 ends.
Not signing anyone up right now, as I would need to hammer out the details and decide if I want to use Monsters or not and how they'd work.
Just gauging the interest in a Risk style game.

Personally I've been addicted to this Risk-like Flash game called Warlight lately.
Thus the inspiration and the "fog" concept.

I don't know how big the world map will be, I tihnk I might decide that after I see
how many people are interested.

I know for sure everyone's starting territory would be random.
First person to sign up gets randomized on the full map.
Everyone in order of sign-up would be randomized with the remaining territories.

I think my hangup with using monsters would be deciding what monsters are on what territory and deciding how to invade a territory.

I mean with risk it's just numbers, I believe you roll 1 die for every invading or defending army.
The Levels would work just like that.
But suppose you have 5 Levels on a territory.
You must leave 1 Level there, meaning you attacked with up to a 4 Level monster.
But on neutral territories that haven't been captured yet, what monster(s) do they have?
When monsters attack one another, does the higher ATK trump a higher Level?
If someone has multiple weak monsters, but is attacked by a single stronger monster, what happens?
Do they team up? Does one get destroyed, but not the other.
What about using multiple monsters to invade a single one?
Should monsters lose stars and ATK power as they get used?
How do you decide to split the Levels if using 1 territory to attack multiple territories?
Would you turn a Level 10 monters into a Level 6 and a Level 4 monster?
It's just kind of messy when working with monsters instead of just a solid number.

There's definitely a lot of rules to iron out, but I don't want it too complicated.

Anyone have any particular Field Spells they want to see translated into regions in the game?
Conquering whole regions will allow you to play more Levels than if you hold random territories.

I know right off the get go I want to have Japan itself in the game, but everything else will be a Field Spell.
Geartown?
Sanctuary in the Sky?
Dragon Ravine?
Ojama Country?
Harpie's Hunting Ground?
Umi/A Legendary Ocean?
Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins?
Skyscraper?
Madolche Chateau?
Naturia Forest?

Just some ideas to throw out there for you to conquer.
What's everyone's favorite Field Spells?

I considered that, but I've put that field into YCG Island twice now.
I want to spread out a bit more with this one.
lz777 wrote:skyscraper!!! :D
A good consideration, but which one?
Skyscraper or #2, Hero City?
Maybe for the Skyscraper region, I can combine them.
A few territories named for Skyscraper, a few named for Hero City, and all of together captures your the region.

Though about that too as I went through the list of Field Spells.
