ATK/DEF: 3000/2800
Card Text: This card cannot be Special Summoned except from the Graveyard by the effect of "Ragnarok". This card is treated a "Viking" monster. If this card is sent to the Graveyard while you do not control a "Valkyrie" monster, remove it from play. Two times per turn, if this card would be destroyed by battle, it is not destroyed OR once per turn, if this card would be destroyed by a card effect, it is not destroyed. Card Text: This card cannot be destroyed or sent to the Graveyard. This card cannot attack or be selected as an attack target. If a monster your opponent controls attacks, you can change the target to another monster you control. Once per turn during your opponent's Battle Phase, select 1 "Viking" monster on your side of the field. The selected monster cannot be selected as an attack target until the End Phase. If you control 3 "Valkyrie" monsters on your side of the field, monsters on your side of the field cannot be targeted by card effects. Once per turn, if a "Viking" monster you control attacks, increase its ATK by 500 during Damage Calculation. As long as you control 3 "Valkyrie" monsters, when a monster you control would be destroyed by your opponent's monster as a result of battle, you can destroy your opponent's monster instead. Return this card to your deck during your second End Phase after either player last declares an attack. You can only control 1 "The Wild Storm Valkyrie, Kara" at a time.

Attribute: EARTH
Type: Warrior
Level: 4
ATK/DEF: 1900/1600
Card Text: This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard except by the effect of "Ragnarok". All other "Viking" monsters on your side of the field gain 300 ATK and DEF. If this card is sent to the Graveyard while you do not control a "Valkyrie" monster, remove it from play.

Card Type: Monster/Effect
Attribute: EARTH
Type: Warrior

ATK/DEF: 100/100
Card Text: This card cannot be Summoned or Set. This card cannot be used as a discard cost. You can reveal this card in your hand to add 1 "Viking Longship" from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand.

Viking Inventory

Card Name: Legendary Stronghold Jomsburg

Card Name: Ragnarok
Card Type: Spell
Card Text: Halve your Life Points and return all face-up "Valkyrie" monsters on your side of the field to the bottom of your Deck to destroy all cards on the field. Then Special Summon as many "Viking" monsters from your Graveyard as possible. During the End Phase of the turn you activate this card, remove from play all cards on the field, in your hand and in both Graveyards. The activation of this card cannot be chained to.

Card Name: Viking Longship
Card Type: Spell/Quick-Play
Card Text: Return 1 "Viking" monster to the bottom of your Deck. Special Summon it during your next Standby Phase.

Card Name: Viking Slave Market
Card Type: Spell/Continuous
Card Text: When an opponent's monster is destroyed by battle by a "Viking" monster, instead of sending it to the Graveyard, take control of the destroyed monster. Its name is treated as "Slave". Its ATK and DEF become 0, its level is reduced to 1 and its effect is negated. When this card removed from the field, destroy all "Slave" cards on your side of the field. A monster destroyed by this effect is Special Summoned to its owner side of the field during the End Phase.

Card Name: Vulnerable Prey
Card Type: Trap
Card Text: If your opponent controls an ATK Position monster whose ATK is less than 2000 or a DEF position monster whose DEF is less than 2000, Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Viking" monster from your hand in ATK Position. You can then reveal the top card of your Deck. If the revealed card is a Level 4 or lower "Viking" monster, Special Summon it to your side of the field in ATK Position. Any other revealed card is removed from play.

You can find further support for this set in Renewed Hope [RNH].

All of the Valkyries are insanely overpowered, very broken, with the right cards and certain circumstances your opponent will never attack, the second sentence should be taken out...iunno, its just really broken and they can be splashed easily in any deck.

Lets say you have 9 Valkryies, there is a HIGH probability that you can summon a Valkryie every turn and stop your opponent from attacking indefintely without doing much, even with the return effects they have

One of the Valkries I would make like this:

When this card is Normal Summoned if you control a "Viking" monster, both players skip their next two battle phases. This effect can only be used once per duel by (card's name). If you control 3 "Valkyrie" monsters on your side of the field, monsters on your side of the field cannot be targeted by card effects.

the rest I would incredibly water them down

uh...you could go with alot of things, one sugestion is up one to 2000 attack and make it level 5 and:

If you control a "Viking" monster, you can special summon this card. If you control 3 "Valkyrie" monsters on your side of the field, if a monster would be destroyed by battle, you can destroy this card instead.

If you control a "Viking" monster, this monster can not be destroyed by battle. If you control 3 "Valkyrie" monsters on your side of the field, once per turn you can battle damage to 0.

I don't like that you are trying to make them warriors, especially if you mean inside the deck as well, as that can leave to abuse with other decks as well. those were just ideas, but I think they need to be watered down alot. I will look at the other cards later.

Card Name: Viking Slave Market
Card Type: Spell/Continuous
Card Text: When an opponent's monster is destroyed by battle by a "Viking" monster, special summon one Slave token (Warrior-Type/EARTH/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0). When this card removed from the field, destroy all "Slave" cards on your side of the field.

Card Name: Vulnerable Prey
Card Type: Trap
Card Text: If your opponent special summons a monster whose ATK is less than 2000, Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Viking" monster from your hand in ATK Position.

Card Name: Volcanic Mist
Card Type: Spell/Continuous
Card Text: This card can only be activated when there is 1 face up "Jurassic World" on the field. If "Jurassic World" is removed from the field, destroy this card. All Dinosaurs are unaffected by card effects your opponent controls. Pay 800 life points during each of your standby phases.

The main idea is to have some burly vikings kick some ass, then retreat with the loot before they can counterattack. Valkyries are angels from Asgard that manipulate the outcomes of battles and guide fallen heroes to Valhalla, where they dine until Ragnarok.

Some of the cards are a bit overpowered. I want to tone them down while keeping the raw power of the Vikings/manipulative effects of the Valkyries. Need some suggestions.

You're actually wrong in the assumption that they can constantly stop your opponent from attacking by summoning one each turn. If a Valkyrie is face-up on the field with no other monsters, your opponent simply attacks your Life Points directly as with Legendary Fisherman and similar cards. A lot of your points don't make sense because you missed this part.

Another thing that needs to be considered is the fact that I made these cards not only with their practicality in mind but also lore. Valkyries don't fight, they only manipulate the outcomes of battles (the main structure of the cards follows this; can't engage in battle and have effects that work in the Battle Phase).

The Valkyries really aren't overpowered unless you get all 3 of them out, THEN they can become extremely difficult to handle. I probably should take out the Warrior part, it was more for the feel of the card than any kind of purpose.

About the slaves, I am aware that they wouldn't make it into the game because of censorship, I actually brought this up when I conceived the card. However, as of yet (this may change, may have to put it up to a vote) we aren't restricted by these limitations. I would prefer it remained uncensored to a degree, so if you would look at the TCG as a censored version of the OCG (mostly revealing card art) perhaps it would work if PCG was a step up from that. Again, this is up for debate.

I'm interested to hear your opinions after this post, especially on the Valkyries, I can see finding a middle point that everyone agrees with could be difficult.

Still the fact that they are all like Spirit Reapers is a problem. As of date most cards that can not be destroyed by battle, require something in return or have a weak spot. These do not have a requirement other than 2 turns later, which is WAY too long, nor do they have a weak spot that can make them be destroyed automatically.

Legendary Fisherman requires UMI to be on the field afterall.

and those cards are pretty restricted to certain things and situations. I am sorry but if you have 9 spirit reaper like cards, brionac and etc evetually will get used up. if Brionac and etc solved everything, Reaper should be unlimited.

Perhaps the best way to describe a Valkyrie is "transparent". They aren't like Reaper because they can't wall your opponent. These guys can't attack, so you're going to get slowed down a lot if you rely on Normal Summons. They also get returned to your hand after 2 rounds of inactivity, which means cards like Swords of Revealing Light/Nightmare Steelcage or soft locks like Marauding Captain can essentially clear your field.

I also feel obliged to rebuke your claim that they can be splashable into any deck. Their transparency means they are more like Spells than monsters that hog your monster slots, and without their once per turn effects that only aid vikings, they are virtually useless unless you get 3 of them out.

Let me address everything in order here.

-Removing the Viking part might be good.
-I don't think making it 3x Tribute AND having a -1 every turn is a good idea. Not really worth it.
-You can't Tribute Valkyries as they can't be sent to the Graveyard at all. At first, when I made this card the Tributes had to be Vikings but if it is, there aren't many uses for Slave Market in the theme.
-Not liking the counter idea, detracts from the implied toughness, especially if the Summoning costs are gonna be increased as well.

This card will definitely be changed in some way, I would also like to hear what you think needs to be changed about this card and why, I believe a discussion would make suggestions more productive.

I would completely remove this card

Why is this? I wanted some notable individuals in the archetype, so suggestions would be good.

I see what you mean, it is just that it is hard to balance effects with lore. The idea of the card was based on viking raids: they come in, steal your goods and run away in their longships before you can do anything about it. Any suggestions on how to make this work?

ATK/DEF: 2400/0
Card Text: This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard except by the effect of "Ragnarok". This card can only be Normal Summoned by returning all "Viking" monsters on your side of the field while your opponent controls at least 1 monster. Once per turn, if this card would be destroyed by battle, it is not destroyed. When this card declares an attack, it must attack all monsters on the field once each. During your second End Phase after Summoning this card, return it to your deck and Special Summon 1 "Viking Axeman" or "Viking Mercenary" from your hand or deck. If this card is sent to the Graveyard while you do not control a "Valkyrie monster, remove it from play.

They will also not let you have a gladiator beast like effect, because themes should not cross over like that

I wouldn't say it's really a Gladiator effect, it's more of a nerf, a time limit for which they can sustain their berserker rage. Not that it's really crossing themes anyway, vikings are very much focused on switching in and out of the deck as a part of the hit-and-run strategy.

Card Name: Viking Captain
Card Type: Monster/Effect
Attribute: EARTH
Type: Warrior
Level: 4
ATK/DEF: 1900/1600
Card Text: This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard except by the effect of "Ragnarok". All "Viking" monsters on your side of the field gain 300 ATK and DEF except this card. If this card is sent to the Graveyard while you do not control a "Valkyrie monster, remove it from play.

Card Name: Viking Mercenary
Card Type: Monster/Effect
Attribute: EARTH
Type: Warrior
Level: 4
ATK/DEF: 1100/1500
Card Text: This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard except by the effect of "Ragnarok". Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can pay up to 2000 Life Points to have "Viking Mercenary" gain ATK equal to that amount until the end of your opponent's next turn. If this card is sent to the Graveyard while you do not control a "Valkyrie monster, remove it from play.

Don't like the option of stealing him? Kinda detracts from the mercenary thing, but I guess it could work.

Card Name: Viking Axeman
Card Type: Monster/Effect
Attribute: EARTH
Type: Warrior
Level: 4
ATK/DEF: 1850/1800
Card Text: This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard except by the effect of "Ragnarok". If this card is sent to the Graveyard while you do not control a "Valkyrie monster, remove it from play.

Card Name: Masterful Shipwright
Card Type: Monster/Effect/Tuner
Attribute: EARTH
Type: Warrior
Level: 1
ATK/DEF: 300/300
Card Text: Once per turn, you can add 1 "Viking Longship" from your deck or Graveyard to your hand for each face-up "Viking Captain" on your side of the field +1.

I wasn't really planning on making this archetype capable of synchros, it might be better to just focus on pure power instead of implementing too many fancy elements. This can still be reconsidered though.

Card Name: A Good Deal
Card Type: Spell
Card Text: Return 1 "Slave" monster on your side of the field to its owner's deck. Draw 2 cards.

No way......abuse potential, get rid of.

Maybe, but on the other hand it can be hard to use because you first need a Slave Market out and a viking to do some enslaving. Can slow you down immensely early in the game.

Card Name: Amanita Muscaria
Card Type: Spell
Card Text: Return 1 "Viking Axeman" to the bottom of your deck to Special Summon 1 "Viking Berserker" from your hand or deck.

Axeman is kinda lame and has no reason to be played, this is a reason if mercenary is deleted, it also makes two paths

Not quite sure what you're saying here. I intended Axeman to be something like a viking grunt, hence why he has no effect.

Card Name: Legendary Stronghold Jomsburg
Card Type: Spell/Continuous
Card Text: Once per turn, you can discard 1 "Viking Longship" from your hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Viking" monster from your deck.

I see you're not big on using slaves for anything. At this rate, they are going to become pretty useless.

During the End Phase of the turn you activate this card, remove from play all cards on the field, in your hand and in both players Graveyards.

You highlighted this but I don't see any changes. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention so could you point it out?

I did think of making these tokens instead but it really started off as a way to prevent your opponent from abusing their Graveyard while staying in line with viking history. More so if you plan to remove all cards that I planned to use in conjunction with Slave Market, it would be a quite limited if this was nerfed.

I actually liked the second effect more than the first. >.>

A lot of your suggestions are really good and make sense. The problem I have is I want the cards to "make sense". Either it's hard to balance between playability or I'm just bad at it, but all the same I would prefer it remained that way. If you would advise me with this in mind, that would be perfect.

Thor

If it has double battle damage it has to have a high cost. Not being able to be destroyed three times, pretty much means its invincible if the opponent has no bounce. Just its somewhat immunity to destruction imo would require a high cost. You either have to throw some effects out, or up its cost.

Bear

I don’t like the atk power, its imunity to two attacks, its ability to attack all monsters, and its battle damage being doubled. That’s A LOT for one monster, not including the maintenace effects. Its atk would be reduce signicatly to like 1200 and you took out the standby face and reduce its level to 5…maybe….but even then I don’t like it, I rather scrap it.

Raiders

If you want to steal a card pay a high cost, either discard two cards to take, lose 3000 life points, tribute two monsters, something high…otherwise you can’t steal

Berserk

The time limit allows you to get out axeman…that’s kinda rought, and realistically it won’t last that long. I seriously don’t like how A LOT of these Vikings have can’t be destroyed by battle attributes…because if you tag them up with Roars, Scrap-Iron, Controllers, Book of the moon, and etc, the Opponent will NEVER attack, that’s why I keep deleting them, because the game becomes to strained. Only 2-3 of that archtype should have that effect, unless costs are involved.

Mercenary

If you want the opponent to have the card, you have to make it discard 1 card. Actually he can be splashed in any deck and probably every deck, I don’t like that, I would maybe add that if there are two or more Vikings in your GY you can pay LP.

A Good Deal

Ok…..1 you have a card that keeps your opponents GY empty, then you are basically using a free card to draw, AND then you add it to their deck, making it harder for them to play and draw what they need, that’s like Tradin and trap Dustshoot combined with Snatch Steal…….its broken, as long as you want to steal your opponents cards its broken.

Axeman has no real special attributes, and the card that says select either or, most ppl would not choose axeman, they would need a reason to play him imo. I would probably totally rewrite berserker.

Legendary Stronghold

Again taking your opponents monster is already a BIG thing, to do extra stuff is kinda unfair. Regardless of the fact that they they get no effects and 0 attack if you have to look at getting your opponents monster like Monster Reborn, and Monster Reborn is a limited card, that does not combo with other cards. Your right, I don’t like many aspects of the slave thing, I would weaken it or smtg.

Ragnarok

Mistake

Viking Slave Market

Revamp the idea imo.

Vulnerable Prey

Ok, the switch it, but make it mandatory

If your opponent Special Summons a card with more than 2000 ATK, draw 1 card and show it to your opponent. If you draw a "Viking" monster, Special Summon it onto your side of the field in ATK Position.

I also feel obliged to rebuke your claim that they can be splashable into any deck. Their transparency means they are more like Spells than monsters that hog your monster slots, and without their once per turn effects that only aid vikings, they are virtually useless unless you get 3 of them out.
Combined with viking on a field they can become untocuhable...i guess, i would weaken thier effects. I mean if thats the case i kinda want to delete thier effects involving vikings. Look at Elusive, with a viking on the field, then its returned, by then you could have draw another elusive and do it again, or activate roar or LOTS of traps and do it again.

Look at Wild storm similar things.

The main problem like i said before, tagged with book of moons, roars, controllers, scrapirons, you make it extremely difficult for the opponent to attack and in most cases not at all.

and the fact that they stay on teh field means alot and does mean they are splashable, it means easy synchro material and traps and monsters that require tributes are EXTREMELY easy to pull off, they have sprit reaper like effects because they stay on the field, as long as they have the power to stay on the field tagged with other effects without some cost they can be abused.

Cannot be Tributed or used as Synchro material as they can't be sent to the GY.

I can see Mist being more of a stall problem than Kara or Eir. Kara and Eir aren't that powerful. Eir only reduces damage to 0 for one monster, and LP usually isn't considered a big loss unless it's half/2000+ or so. Kara has a once per turn effect that's kinda like Skyscraper but reversed. At most I would say reduce it from 1000. Or I could make it something like 2 End Phases instead of 2 of your End Phases. I've actually playtested these, so I know they aren't as powerful as they seem.

Thorkell: Okay, how about this?

Card Name: Thorkell the Tall
Card Type: Monster/Effect
Attribute: EARTH
Type: Warrior
Level: 8
ATK/DEF: 3000/2800
Card Text: This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard except by the effect of "Ragnarok". This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by Tributing 3 monsters on your side of the field. During your Standby Phase, Tribute 1 monster on your side of the field or discard 1 card from your hand. If you do not, this face-up card is sent to the Graveyard. Two times per turn, if this card would be destroyed, it is not destroyed. Battle Damage inflicted by this card is doubled. If this card is sent to the Graveyard while you do not control a "Valkyrie monster, remove it from play. This card is a "Viking" monster.

If we use equivalents here, it would be something like 3x Tribute pays for damage, discard pays for protection.

Bear Zerker: Okay, for now I'll put him on hold. I would like to make a replacement/replacement effect for him though.

Raiders: Does this work? I lose at least 1 card per attack whether I steal one or not, the f/d can be chained and I have to destroy a monster.

Card Name: Viking Seawolf Raiders
Card Type: Monster/Effect
Attribute: EARTH
Type: Warrior
Level: 6
ATK/DEF: 2500/1900
Card Text: This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard except by the effect of "Ragnarok". If you declare an attack with this card, discard 1 card from your hand. When this card destroys a monster by battle, you can select 1 Spell or Trap card on your opponent's side of the field and set it face-down on your side of the field. During your End Phase, you can return this card to the bottom of your deck and Special Summon it during your next Standby Phase. If this card is sent to the Graveyard while you do not control a "Valkyrie monster, remove it from play.

Berserker: I'm pretty sure Berserker won't consistently be killed in one turn every time he is summoned, given his effect and the protection Valkyries would provide. Basically it prevents 3x Valkyrie lockdown + Berserker smashing everything to pieces without harness. If we forget about Bjorn, Thorkell and Berserker are the only ones with "cannot be destroyed" effects. As for the Valkyries, they are more like continuous spells than monsters. That's how I usually think of them.

Mercenary: I don't really know what's so good about this guy. I mean, he's a disloyal beatstick that's just going to eat your Life Points so the way I see it, he's only good for a one time solution to deal with an immediate threat. In the play tests I did, I summoned Axe over this guy.

A Good Deal: How about returning it to hand?

Card Name: A Good Deal
Card Type: Spell
Card Text: Return 1 "Slave" monster on your side of the field to its owner's hand. Draw 2 cards. They get their card back (-1), you gain 2 cards (+2), you lose 1 card from activating this card (-1).

Jomsburg: Okay, I'm good with removing the draw effect, but then something else needs to be added. Longships are precious and important to the strategy of the deck, throwing them away so easily isn't always a wise move. Need to think of something good.

Ragnarok: You mean a typo, or the card is a mistake? If it's the latter, that is troublesome, I like Ragnarok.

Slave Market: I don't think the effect is too broken, it was mainly the supporting draw effects. I would be hard pressed to better represent the notion of forcing captives into slave labor. Gonna keep this for now, unless you have a good suggestion?

Vulnerable Prey: That's reasonable, I'll roll with that.

Then draw 1 card. If you draw a "Viking" monster, Special Summon it on your side of the field in ATK Position.

Axeman: This guy is mainly for Zerker and the mushrooms. Mostly a complementary beatstick. You'll probably need him for Ragnarok and Viking Captain as well.

You have been bringing up defense cards like Book of Moon, e-con, roar etc a lot, but I intended the deck to be offensive oriented. In any case, the effects provide enough protection that I think having too many defensive s/ts would only hinder and burden you with useless draws. I would rather find space to quickly bring out a 3x Valkyrie lock, much more potent.

Thorkell, I rather have the monsters be Viking monsters only, I still don’t like it , buts its better.
Raider

Reduce to 2400 attack (to date there are no exceptional good level 6 monsters that have over 2400 atk and effects). I would make the during the end phase part mandatory, or take it out, and its completely fine with me.

Berserker

That’s exactly my point, the lockdown consists of all level 4s, no lockdown is easy to pull off where all you have to do is summon monsters, especially when 3 of them can stay on the field. That’s why I think the Valkryies need to be edited. At minimum I would increase this to level 5. I just don’t like the valkryies at all…..

A good deal

…thats not even, because you gained a free card, you already start with a +1, so its they get card back -1, you draw +2, you lose 1 when playing this card -1, that’s a +1, that’s just like pot of greed and its banned, reduce to draw 1 card. Keep in mind that you are manioulating your opponents gy and taking thier monster, most of the time those are cards taht are limited or banned, so you really can't get any +1's out of it other than a +0 to just then the deck.
