Legend of Korra!

Post by Kamikon Wolf » Mon Apr 16, 2012 11:38 pm

Awesome. I think it's gonna be a great sequel series to Avatar the Last Airbender.

Besides Korra, Meelo is best character.

I loved avatar the last airbender!
not the movie though. I thought that was terrible.
The sequel should be pretty cool.

This series is MAGNIFICENT.

The animation is beautiful.
The original had great animation and this one blows it away.
They don't use CGI badly, it enhances the regular animation, but doesn't distract from it.

The music has also been spot on perfect.
The Last Airbender had great music, and this series holds it up.
It reflects the advancement in the era, as it has that jazzy feel of the 1920s and 30s.
It does it well while still having that ancient oriental touch and blends the two things nicely.

I love seeing the progress of the Avatar world in the 70 years between series.
The technology feels right without bein too advanced for the timeframe, nor is it stuck in the ancient era of the first series.

The series in the whole has enough changes to keep everything fresh without alienating everything we knew about the old avatar world.
Some series, when they age the universe (Ben 10, I'm looking at you) fail to age things appropriately.
Things usually work differently and they don't maintain the continuity well.
But they got everything spot on.

I can't say a single bad thing about this series.
They changed it in all the right ways to keep it fresh, interesting, and different without screwing up the universe.
They even made the first book of this new series Air, holding up the Avatar Cycle of season naming.
My one question is what they will name the second book, as this series is guaranteed to have 2 seasons.

Prediction Time! (note, I'm guessing here, don't know any more than anyone else, so these aren't spoilers)
Mako + Korra = Romance (also, love how they named Mako after Iroh's original voice actor who passed away)
Amon is actually a bender and wants to eliminate benders so he can rule over everyone as the sole bender on the planet.
Amon MAY have a new bending ability not seen yet.
Katara dies. That would be a good piece of turmoil for both Korra as her waterbending master, and Tenzin, her son.
Katara's death may or may not be related to Amon and his Equalists.
Republic City gets destryed and/or conquered by the Equalists.
By the end of the series, motion pictures are invented. :D
Korra learns to drive! :D

You know I made this thread specifically to bait you and see what you thought of it, right? You played right into my hands!

Edit: Although on a serious note, I want to know something. Why did Aang die at 66? That seems awfully young. Granted the explanation is probably that he was actually 166, but he didn't age in the iceberg. I'd like to know how exactly he died.

And I want to know what happened to Zuko's mother. Darn ADHD Airbender.

I believe the explanation was that the 100 years trapped in the iceberg drained Aang a lot.
His body was using the avatar state the entire 100 years.
So it was really young, but the managed to explain it away.

I don't think you'll ever know what happens to Zuko's mother.
Ikki's interruption of that question was a nice poke at the fans.

I was playing the Republic City "game" on Nick's site (which isn't much of a game, more of just a guide) and was surprised to learn that Avatar Kyoshi was 230 years old!

lol, Kyoshi used up Aang's lifespan by living to an insane age.
But is that supposed to be fact, or was that mythology of Kyoshi Island that can't be proven?

It's odd, none of the original Team Avatar lived long except Katara.

Katara is still alive and is only early 80s.
She mentions that her brother and most her friends are gone.
So that means Sokka is dead, but he was only like 2 or 3 years older than Katara.
Toph was only 12 like Aang, and if she's dead, she wasn't that old either.
Zuko was the oldest of them all I think, which would put him at about 85ish, but still, it's not impossible he lived that long.
Suki should be about the same age as Katara, where is she?

I mean, in the orginal series, there was plenty of old people.
King Bumi was the age Aang should have been, so he had to be about 112 years old.
Katara's Gran Gran was in her 80s, maybe even 90.
Zuko's grandfather, Fire Lord Azulon, he was pretty ancient before he was killed by Ozai and Aila (I think that's Zuko's mom's name).
Fire Lord Sozin lived into his 90s I believe.
The old puppet master woman from Book 3 that taight Katara blood bending was as old as her Gran gran.
Pakku, the water bending master, was about the same age as Gran Gran.

So they killed off the original Team Avatar pretty young.
At the very least, Toph should still exist.
Unlike Aang, she didn't use up her life force by sitting in the Avatar state for 100 years.

They couldn't have been more obvious about it than putting a clip in the promo with Korra saying "admit it you like me" to Mako. I wish they would have made it more subtle and kept it at them looking out the window at the end of that second episode. That alone could have set the mood for "MaKorra".

Personally, I like the idea of Bolin and Korra much better.

I TOO am loving the new Avatar series! They did a real good job of keeping the same spirit as the original, despite malevolenly killing off virtually every character.

That said, I will miss Uncle Iroh (voiced by Mako: coincidentally the name of a new main character) even more now...

Oh, and I predict that Amon will be somehow related to Jet since both really hate bending in some way.
Although Jet would have to be a desendant of one or more of Jet's friends since Jet probably died (Smeller Bee+Longshot, anyone?).
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

That's no coincidence.

Mako, Iroh's original voice actor, died shortly after finishing his lines for Book 2.
That's why Iroh's segment of the episode "Tales of Ba Sing Sei" was dedicated to Mako.

They named the character Mako in homage to him.

I'm not concerned about any Bolin-Korra relationship.
I think Bolin will be the Sokka of this series.
Expect Bolin to have a love interest that hasn't been introduced yet.
But his role is to be the happy-go-lucky guy that everyone likes.

I've been pronouncing his name like Mako Tsunami this whole time. I re-watched the show today and heard it pronounced as Mah-ko. Dang.

I dread that it is only Tuesday. Anxious for Saturday for more of this epicosity.

lol, I know how it's supposed to be pronounced, but when I read it in text, I keep reading as may-ko.
It's the same spelling as mako sharks, right?
And those are may-ko.

I actually thought the actor's name was May-ko too until this series since his name only appeared in text in the credits.

I'll have to keep telling myself the right pronunciation and watching the series.
I'm sure by the end of episode 4, I won't read it as May-ko anymore.

Or you could troll some die hard fans by pronouncing it wrong on purpose.
