That doesn't mean you aren't right.

Sure, the Life Point totals weren't effected that much to actually effect the duel's outcome.
However, if I keep getting it wrong like that, I could potentially make a mistake that should cause a person to win or lose when they shouldn't.

It's not that easy.

Ren got beaten up.
Takao was kidnapped before even getting to duel.
George almost shot them, although Yamamoto shot him first.
Katsumi we just found out has Soul Duelist powers, which help her even though she doesn't realize it.
She most likely would have lost without it as she's been seen making a couple stupid plays.
Behind the scenes, Ren is actually a tournament level duelist, but she hides that fact so nobody knows it.
Soul Duelists might have advantages over her, but her pure skill makes up for it.

Also, this is the very first story arc, so I'm building things up.

Yeah, main characters tend to never lose.

I think in the original series, Yugi lost 2 duels the whole time.
First against Kaiba at the castle in Duelist Kingdom, although he could have won if he attacked.
He stopped the attack because Kaiba stood on a ledge and he was afraid the shockwave from the attack would knock him off or something like that.
His other loss came against Raphael in the Waking the Dragons arc when Yami willingly used the Seal of Orichalcos and lost Yugi's soul.
I believe he wins every single other time.
Joey, despite being barely trained at the start of Duelist Kingdom, wins every game until the final match when he's beaten by Yugi, naturally.
Although Kaiba does beat him in an unofficial duel.
He then goes on to win every game in Battle City as well until he makes it to the semi-finals where he loses against Marik, which only sets up Marik to duel against Yugi.
He also loses to Kaiba again in their 3rd place match just because Kaiba is that awesome and owns Joey.

Really, the only semi-main character that can't seem to win consistantly is Mai Valentine.
Most her wins are off screen against unnamed duelists (she does beat Rex Raptor for room rights, but that again is off screen).
She loses to Joey.
She loses to Tea (she surrendered).
She loses to Yugi.
She loses to Marik.

Her record on screen is horrible.

Hey Mystic, haven't been here for a long time. I'm really enjoying this story; much better than 5Ds and GX. Can't make any comparisons to ZEXAL cause I haven't seen it, but I'm assuming that it's better than that too. I love the way you barely used any real cards as well.

Thanks for the compliment, I don't know if it's better than 5Ds, people seemed to like that, but I'll be glad to be better than GX.
ZeXal is even worse than GX, and is even further in the future than 5Ds, although motocycle dueling has seemed to failed to exist. :P
The only real card I used so far is Polymerization, and that's only because I couldn't think of a good reason to replace it.

Although, I found out that "Trap Pawning Goblin" from Chapter 9 actually has almost the same exact
effect as "Magic Planter" from Raging Battle.

Magic Planter
"Send 1 face-up Continuous Trap Card you control to the Graveyard. Draw 2 cards."

Trap Pawning Goblin
"Destroy 1 Continuous Trap Card you control. Draw 2 cards."

I actually didn't know about Magic Planter existed until a couple hours ago when I was flipping through random sets
to find cards for my upcoming game, Who's That Yu-Gi-Mon? Generation 2.

There's probably some other similar cards too, but as far as I know, that's the closest I've come to copying a real card yet.

There are some homages to real cards, though.

She also beat Pegasus, but then he didn't have his Eye at the time.
And she had the Seal of Orichalcos.

Polymerisation's probably the one "real" card you could've gotten away with, since it's been used in all the other series (except 5D's who use the Speed Spell version)

I almost didn't use Polymerization and was going to go with something more specific, but I decided against it because that just seemed preposterous and next time I needed ANY other character to use a Fusion Monster, I'd just need to invent another card, and that would get stupid.

I just looked it up, Polymerization is actually one of the few cards to have been used in every anime, manga, and movie.

In 5Ds, Jack Atlas apparently used it to Fusion "Multiple Piece Golem".

Great story better than any other yu-gi-oh story I read but I don't see why everyone hates on GX my favorite series.

Yeah, I know.
I have the next section rough drafted, and I have up through the end of the story arc in my head.
I also have bits of the next story arc in my head too.

I keep thinking, "Alright, tonite I'm going to bear down and write this," but I keep finding myself distracted or not feeling inspired to work on it.

Really, that's the only thing holding the story back from finishing is me putting pencil to paper so to speak.

I need to do it soon, though, because just like Yu-Gi-Oh GP, if I forget about it too long, I'll never finish.
lol, I still have Yu-Gi-Oh GP in my head too, but that's a lot more work than just typing.

I also need to update the card listing once I get this new Chapter in. >.>

Well I just finished reading this while thing and I have a couple things to say: first my eyes hurt, you need a disclaimer saying dont read all this from your smartphone at night  , second I like how you made the typical hero a yugi type but went away from the idiot best friend and made Ren a kiaba type instead, third I wanna sere an evil duelist lose with a dragon deck. Good job all in all I want to see 10 sooner rather than later.

Maybe a tag duel?

Did you read the same thing I wrote?

Katsumi isn't a Yugi type and Ren certainly isn't a Kaiba type.
So far the Kaiba type if anyone is Yamamoto.

Actually, Miura Yuudai is a satire of the typical YuGiOh protagonist, only I flipped him and made him a villian instead.
His initials are even the same as Muto Yugi and his main monster is "Winged-Guardian Kamen Kesshi", basically a masked hero.
Although its Attribute, Level, ATK, and DEF are all Cyber Dragon.
Yuudai's hair shoulda been the dead giveaway. :P

Yugi
Yuki
Yusei
Yuma
Yuudai
