YCG Fractions: Should they come back?

Post by dracostrike » Thu Mar 05, 2015 12:41 pm

The aim of this thread is simple, to see if people would enjoy the idea of making/joining a fraction (of a monster type). Some people I know would like to be in the spell-casters' fold or being brought under the dragon's claw, but many other ones are possible, including archetypes to an extent.

I would like to see this arise like they did around 1-2 years ago, where tournaments were held between rival fractions to fun and great RPing effect or to make a more competitive setting between users :P Recently I feel that it's fallen by the wayside and I would love to bring back something so simple yet fun :)

As for me? Well I was dragon for most of my time and joined the spell-casters after Doom's decline, so surprise! I would like to form a Warrior fraction :D Raise your swords, shields and DONGERS!

Never joined a clan when we had one but sounds like fun. The question i always had is how strict should the type rules be in forced. For example I run a healing agent deck which the main cards are fairy does that count for example

Well, I would love to join a Dragon Clan, but my Sams keep calling to me. D:
I'm just gonna leave here how I think we could run it:
There should be it's own limited/forbidden list, voted on and adopted by the "Council of Masters"-all the leaders of the Fractions. Updated every month, as consistently as possible. Anyone who does not give input deals with it.
Each Fraction would have it's own leadership system, but would have a representative sent to vote for the ban list.
Tournaments would be bimonthly.
Individual battles can be waged at any time with Challenges.
To issue a challenge, one clan leader posts a challenge to another on a designated thread. The Challenger can either accept or decline, although a decline will result in a loss of points.
In challenge matches, each contender bets 3 points for their fraction. (one per duel)
In leader vs Leader matches, each leader bets 9 points for their fraction. (three per duel)
Challenges proceed with the challenger's leader commanding duelists to fight, and the opponent choosing who to counter with. (#strategy) From there, they may duel on DN or YGOPro, with a screenshot of the victory. Only Fractions-registered decks may be used. (Duelists register their decks with their leader, and the leaders register decks with a one-sentence summary.)
Challengers get to go first in the first duel of the match.
Once one fraction has more than 50% of the points on the line this challenge, that team's leader can challenge their counterpart to a final match. After this match, the challenge is over, with points being transferred to their appropriate teams.
Rankings are updated after each challenge. Multiple challenges are not allowed. Challenges can be qued up, but not started until the current challenge has finished.
The points and duelists available to the challenger determine the length of a challenge. Since they require 3 points per duelist, (duelists cannot duel again once defeated in a challenge) they cannot bet more than they have. The challenger CAN state a predetermined amount of points offered in a challenge IF and only if BOTH teams can afford it. In this instance, duelists can be cycled through if there are too few.

Points system:
Upon formation, each fraction would get points as follows:
10 for their leader.
5 per duelist.

As each new duelists joins, their fraction receive 3 points.

Points determine the ranking of each fraction. Furthermore, each faction gets 1 vote per 5 points on the ban list, capped at 10. Each fraction must get at least 1 vote, regardless of points.
This is an EXTREMELY rough version, anyone can go ahead and debate it/clean it up/reject it/support it.

I know it was a mountain of work to maintain all of this before but I think it's possible. I will forever and always be a spellcaster first and foremost

Personally, I prefer decimals to fractions.

So what do you guys think of my proposal?
Also I think that the following clans would exist:
Warrior
Spellcaster
Dragon (?????)
Machine
Other

We should not call them clans since it could be confused with the dnet ones. This is pretty much a way to help set up RP situations and tournaments to spark a friendly rivalry :)

As to the rules, the fractions themselves will have none. You simply say whether you with a fraction or not ^^ The tournaments later can decide on possible rules for them but for now this is to get people's attention and cause the new rise of rival fractions :D

This will just die like the 5000 other times we tried it. Especially if the wrong people are running it.
