Xyz Monsters - First Impressions

Post by MysticJhn » Tue Jul 12, 2011 9:23 pm

Alright, so Dawn of the Xyz has been officially released in the TCG.
Right now we only have access to 3 Xyz Monsters (Utopia, Gachi Gachi Gantetsu, and Grenosaurus) but they are finally there to use.
I haven't tried them yet, I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered.

Who here has tossed them into their Extra Deck so far just to use them, just for fun?
Did you enjoy the option of them?
Were they amusing, even if we don't have any of the better ones yet?

First impressions of the new mechanic now that you can actually use them; GO!

EDIT: Also, we all know the name Xyz is terrible, but let's skip that and just talk about actual gameplay.

Grenosaurus isn't great but the other 2 actually offer big things for certain decks.

Utopia is a huge deal for Gadgets, Worms and Gravekeeper's, because aside from boss monsters that come out only when it's absolutely safe for them to do so (Fortress, W Nebula), those decks have trouble running over some stuff.
And it also helps Samurais somewhat since they have no trouble dropping 2 Kizans, have plenty of room in their Extra since they need little more than their 3 Shi-Ens, Barkion, and Trishula; and Utopia gives them 2 turns of stall in the face of the dreaded 2600+ atk beatstick.

Gachi Gachi Gantetsu is amazing for Agents because Venus becomes a better standalone card that can generate actual advantage rather than just randomly filling the field with vanillas, which could usually only be accomplished with the help of a tuner. It also helps immensely in the Stun matchup, since it turns Venus into a 2000 attacker (meaning you can run over the 1900 beaters Stun decks like so much) and it's a high-defense wall that's immune to random one-for-one destruction at least twice.

Theory is nice, but did you actually play with them yet?

This thread is more about the experience of actually using them.

After proxying Aspiring Emperor Hope, Evolkaiser Ragia, Vylon Disigma, and Empty Space Sea Serpent Leviael, Exceeds are FRIGGIN AWESOME! Also, the TCG needs better names. Seriously, Utopia? What the Flame Swordsman?

Alright, I said in the beginning that we're not discussing the name.
I know I was talking about Xyz, but the names in general aren't important.

And since when was there a Flame Swordsman #2?

I don't think there was. I believe I was thinking of Darkfire Soldier #2.

I have not used any xyz's yet, but I have a question. When you attach materials where do they go? The spell & trap zone?

They're supposed to go under the monster, fanned out, I guess so that your opponent can easily check how many overlays it has left.

You just stack them in the same Monster Card Zone under the Xyz Monster.
If your opponent takes control of it, they travel with it.
If it goes face-down, they stay underneath it.
When the Xyz Monster leaves the field, they are sent to the Graveyard, however they no longer count as being sent from the field, so effects that say "When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard..." don't activate.

I have used them(proxy) and gosh im surprised

Shadow Four REALLY WORK

Im making a Shadow Four with Chaos theme, and Utopia is boss. No to mention the amount of engine i can try out with this deck is plain insane. Hero engine ? sure, as a bonus, Alius is a light. Stun engine ? okay you can try Doomcaliber and Rai-oh, and they are Light and Dark for further rising the synergy with the theme

As for now, the only Xyz ive used is Utopia with Good'ol Karakuri. Pretty good alternatiive when i have no tuner i must say.

Then my weird Gadgets + Hero beat is pretty fun.
Dark Strike Fighter should be Unbanned. Its useless/sarcasm

So then, so far it seems people are enjoying this new mechanic, despite the early complaints that they were terrible and nobody would ever use them. :P :D

Mystic, have you seen the crazy things the OCG has been doing in Agents with Daigusto Phoenix and United We Stand? It's a freaking 2 card OTK.

Cause to be honest, the first few we learned about weren't really that good. Then we started seeing stuff like Steelswarm Roach, Daigusto Phoenix, Evolkaiser Ragia, Tyras and Adreus, etc. There are some really good ones now.

OOOO......kayyyyy......

SS Roach - I remember so many say it sucks cuz of no attack, but some praise it because of the fact that it is pretty balance and good(AKA this board)

DG Phoenix - I remember so many said this card has no attack, so it sucks and its effect is lame. And many say no one use many level 2 to ever summon this in normal situation

Ragia - at this point everyone has stopped whining and realize the mechanic's upside

Tyras - I remember many say his effect sucks and he is impossible to summon. I also remembered some people say this thing is worthless because they read its effect wrong(AKA me)

Adreus - Read Ragia

And the one that is getting pretty big praise relative for the time of release is :

Aspiring - and they do say this card sucks.
