Budget Decks: March 2011

This is the place to tell us about your deck and to give other people feedback on theirs.

Please be nice to new players. Don't expect everyone to be an expert, that is why they are asking for advice, after-all.

Extra Deck:
Karakuri Shogun mdl 00 "BUREI" x3 ($10 each)
Karakuri Shogun mdl 00X "BUREIDO" x2 ($10 each)

Main Deck = $44
Extra Deck = $50

Strategy:
Synchro multiple times, swam big synchro's, and gain card/field/hand advantage.

Pretty budget deck no Instant Fusion's because they are more expensive. This is the current decklist I am using and I will probably pick up some Instant Fusion's this week. Deck works very well.

I won't comment on the deck, but I'll just ask:

Prices taken from where ? Alamo ?

Sorry if I'm off with the prices the deck is probably less than $94 if you get a bundle at your locals. Basically everything I was unsure of I went on eBay/Amazon ( Don't know if they are the best sites). Mostly every common was just $1. I can edit the prices if they are too inaccurate.

Not being listed for a) not being particularly good in general and b) prices being totally made up.
If someone told me my Bureis were only worth $10 I'd probably punch them in the face.

In red are the bad cards (Hammer, Bushi, Stronghold) and bad ratios (why would you not max Cache and Anatomy, wtf with Compuls over Torrential, D. Prison and BTH?).
And the deck as a whole cannot be considered for this thread because Burei is essential to the deck, and he's a $20 card (the rules clearly state that no single card can be worth more than $10 in the deck).

Didn't max out Cash Cache because I feel like there aren't enough targets to use it so I put it down to 2 and 3 Merchants. Didn't max out on anatomy because didn't have a 3rd lol, and as I said it was MY build. No torrential and things because dont have extra ATM. This deck plays aggressively, so that's why I play the 3 compulsory. Bushi's are in there because don't have a Haipa and if you just leave it out you have a very low monster count and Cash Cache will be sitting in your hand doing nothing. Sorry about the Burei's lol

bricemck wrote:Here is a fun deck that anyone on a budget should be able to put together and enjoy.

This deck is mostly commons. If a price is not listed beside a card, it is a common card that is priced less than $1 per copy. Also each price listed is the price of a single copy of the card. Prices are from Ebay or Amazon. Prices are rounded up to the nearest dollar)

Monsters: 25
3 Caius, the Shadow Monarch ($5)
3 Battle Fader ($9)
3 Swap Frog (common)
3 Raiza, the Storm Monarch ($7)
2 Snowman Eater ($4)
2 Dupe Frog (common)
2 Treeborn Frog (common)
2 Mobius, the Frost Monarch (common)
2 Dark Dust Spirit (common)
1 Sangan (common)
1 Ronintoadin (common)
1 Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness ($2)

Spells: 14
3 Enemy Controller (common)
2 Soul Exchange ($1)
2 Mystical Space Typhoon (common)
2 Nobleman of Extermination (common)
1 Pot of Avarice (common)
1 Foolish Burial (common)
1 Dark Hole (common)
1 Monster Reborn (common)
1 Book of Moon (common)

Traps: 1
1 Treacherous Trap Hole ($.01)

**Price Before Commons: $84
If the price with commons is too high for you, simply remove Raiza, the Storm Monarch and replace it with Zaborg, the Thunder Monarch which will drop your price by $21. This will hamper the playability of the deck though, as Raiza is one of the better Monarchs.
Play Style
Monarchs are one of the top decks of the format because of their good match ups against XX-Sabers and Six Samurai. It has a bad match up against Gladiator Beasts, Blackwings, and Gravekeepers, which is why I added 3 Snowman Eater and 2 Mystical Space Typhoon to the main deck. You have to be slow and careful when you play this deck, so I do not suggest it for aggressive players who like to drop their entire hand and OTK at any moment.

When playing this deck you hope to open with Swap Frog and a Monarch. Swap Frog sends Treeborn Frog to the graveyard with it's effect. Treeborn revives itself every turn, provided you have no spells or traps set, so the sooner you get Treeborn in the grave the sooner you can start summoning Monarchs. Dupe Frog, Foolish Burial, and Sangan all help you get Treeborn sooner. Snowman Eater, Battle Fader, and Gorz all stall until you can set up treeborn, plus they offer floating tribute fodder for your Monarchs. And if your other strategies fail, you can use Soul Exchange or Enemy Controller to get your opponents key monsters and use them as tributes for your monarchs.
Tribute Monsters
You can use any of your favorite tribute monsters for this deck. You aren't simply limited to monarchs. If your area sees a lot of traps, run Jinzo. If plant decks are big in your area, you may prefer Airknight Parshath to run over tokens. Heck you can even get away with Obelisk the Tormentor in this deck. The possibilities are numerous, don't feel trapped and think you only have to run these tribute monsters. That being said, let me explain why I chose these monsters (other than their cheap price).

Caius: Caius is the best and most versatile single tribute monster in the game. His removal effect is mandatory so it will get it's effect under most circumstances. Not to mention the 1000 point burn is really handy against dark decks. It can hit both monsters and spell and traps and it's the monster you always want to see in your hand.

Raiza: Raiza is considered by many to be the second best monarch. His ability to "spin" cards to the top of the deck is handy in a lot of situations. Like Caius he can hit both the front and back row, and he makes your opponent waste a draw phase. If he has a downside, it's that many decks such as Gladiator Beasts and Heroes search their deck so much that they really don't care if you spin their cards.

Mobius: Mobius is another good monarch. He can clear backrows faster than any other monarch. He's good enough that I usually side out Raiza before this guy. However you won't be destroying backrows often enough to merit using more than 2 Mobius in my oppinion.

Dark Dust Spirit: DDS Is an excellent card. He is essentially a re-useable monarch since he returns to your hand during the endphase. With Treeborn as an engine you never worry about tribute fodder and he kills all of your opponents monsters each turn. Your opponent will have a hard time setting up plays with this monster in your deck.
Future Cards
An easy way to make this deck better is to add 1-2 Fishborg Blaster (common) and add 3 Formula Synchron ($9) to this deck. Formula Synchron lets you draw a card and opens up the ability to use a standard Synchro Deck. I suggest one Fishborg Blaster, and I would remove Sangan for it.

Genex Undine and Genex Controller (both commons) help get Treeborn Frog and Fishborg Blaster to the graveyard quickly. And they give you access to Locomotion R Genex ($4.50). I suggest two of each of the Genex cards, and I would remove 2 Dupe Frog and 2 Thestalos.

Finally Light and Darkness Dragon ($20) is the card you need to take this to the top of your local and regional tournaments. It makes your opponent waste resources and you can get them out really easy with your frog engine. I suggest 3 Light and Darkness Dragon. I would remove Vanity's Fiend and some monarchs other than Caius or Raiza.
This might be in need of an update, considering LaDD is now about 2 dollars.

In the future cards section I clearly say that LaDD is the first card they need to get a hold of.

True but considering this thread is centered towards newer players I'm betting that they wouldn't know what monsters to take out for him. They also might make a terrible trade still thinking three of them are worth $20.It would be helpful to update it that's all I'm saying.

Traps x16
12.35$

3 DNA Surgery
http://trollandtoad.com/p130496.html 6.00$
3 DNA Transplant
http://trollandtoad.com/p130498.html 0.60$ (LOL 1/10 of DNA Surgery)

1 Fake Trap
http://trollandtoad.com/p177276.html 0.25$

The total cost of this deck is 50.58$, probably as cheap as you can get without buying the 3 Structure Decks thing.
The idea of this deck is to (1) Change your opponents monsters to Machine type and play System Down. (2) Change your opponents Monsters to Fire type, and play Ultimate Baseball Kid, (3) Use high attack monsters that are under level 4 and play Level Limit Area B, and Level Limit Area A, cards like Hunter Dragon and Ultimate Baseball Kid can take out most level 3 and unders. The rest are cards that destroy Machine Types and special summon Ultimate Baseball Kids from the deck, like UFO Turtle.
Main Deck(s): Twilight, Lightray

I'll talk to canasian and probably assume this thread myself.

Seeing as I'm the biggest contributor to this thread at the moment, it seems logical for me to not let it die.

Yes please.

You'll have to make another topic though, since you probably can't edit the first page as you like, unless Mystic made you a mod 'scourse, which won't and shouldn't happen. :o
